Barn Swallows

Barn Swallows are Abundant in Western Washington mainly from Late March-Late September latest staying Swallow in the State. They spent most times in the air catching flying bugs like Houseflies, Sand-flies, Snake-flies, Midges, Carpenter Ants, Male Yellowjackets, Honey Bees, Spiders in air, Damselflies, Lady Bugs, Grasshoppers, Leaf-hoppers, Crane Flies, Lacewings. Milkweed Borders, Mosquitoes, may dip in a Body of water for water.
Habitats 
Are farmlands, cities, suburbs, towns, villages or rural areas, prairies, lakes, ponds, lagoons, rivers, marshes, sewage ponds, bogs, gravel pits, estuaries. They nest under eaves, bridges, culverts.

Behavior

Barn Swallows can often be seen foraging for insects low over fields or water. In bad weather, they sometimes forage on the ground. They gather mud for their nests from mud puddles, although they do not raise their wings when they do this as Cliff Swallows do.
